A few memories

Rob Hemsworth has been in touch to recount his childhood memories of Mickleover.

My Uncle Charlie ( Stephen Charles Hemsworth to give him his full title)  was Station Master at Mickleover from around the mid 1950's until it closed in 1964

When I was a youngster we used to stay with him and his family in the Station House at Mickleover. It is all a little hazy now some 40 years later but I can remember the drive leading from the main road to the station. I think there was a pub at the top and we used to  ride down the drive on the luggage trolleys. They had steel wheels  and no brakes, a bit hairy but great fun.

I can also remember going into the signal box, totally against regulations.

When the station closed, Uncle Charlie  moved up to  Norton Bridge on the West Coast main line, between Stafford  and Stone.

When that closed he moved to Coventry and worked at the main line station until he retired in the 1970's
