Royal Scot class 4-6-0 No: 46115 Welsh Guardsman awaiting departure from St Pancras with the 17.25 service to Nottingham, 'The Robin Hood', in 1961. This train would have run via Kettering, Manton and Melton Mowbray then past Old Dalby to Nottingham. It's January 1962, and Nottingham driver 'Nobby' Bush gets his train details from guard Bernard Allcock of Kentish Town whilst his fireman Ronald Dobson contemplates the journey ahead. In a few minutes D124 will depart from platform 6 at St Pancras into the winter's night. The Derby-based loco (17A) would haul 1D15, the Down 'Robin Hood' to Nottingham via Kettering and the Melton line. Denis Dunn |
