2017

For details and photos of test train running before 2017 see the index here.

The line is leased by LUL in order to test and commission the next generation of London Underground trains, known as Sub Surface Lines (SSL) trains. Serco Assurance were awarded the contract to manage the whole of the test track of behalf of LUL which will give them the opportunity to attract other interested parties to the line.

In October 2013 the BRB Residuary was abolished and the line passed to NR ownership

London Undergound's S Stock units continued to be tested and commissioned during the year as did Crossrail stock

November 2017

Part of the recent budget included the following statement-

The government is to consult on commercial options to improve mobile communications for passengers, and will provide up to £35M to upgrade Network Rail's test track at Melton Mowbray (aka the Old Dalby TT)

Bad News

Photos on the test track are quite difficult to get now as the foot crossing at Asfordby Hill has been removed and fenced off, also the yard at Widmerpool has a locked gate and a no access sign and general overgrowth of vegetation has made shots few and far between.

Locomaster Profiles are releasing a cab ride DVD which was filmed from 20301 on 8X09 from Asfordby. The footage starts at the depot and features an extensive part of the train's route, all the way to Banbury but I can't discover whether it has actually been released yet.
